The Woman I Used To Be

If you run into the woman I used to be,

Ask her about the lack of vulnerability.

Happy, giddy, & go-lucky

until oneday she stopped smiling

and no one said a thing except

“You too cute to look so mean.”

Annoyingly, she’d grimace

in place of a laugh,

life became too serious

no time to turn back, worried

about future promising

and past leavings.

Tell her it’s okay

to grieve, to want

things are going to be fine. Keep

her head up, the woman

she’ll meet down the line

will greet her with a hug

and a tear in her eye.
