The Fruit
At the end of the day, The Grapevine Sway LLC is
about giving back to the next generation, whose ultimate responsibility is to
continue on with what they were taught. In today’s world, children and
teenagers are lacking the skills to communicate constructively. Growing up in
the 1980’s, writing and poetry was still alive, full fledge.
Kids today
are expressing themselves in such a negative way, we often wonder if there’s
any hope. Social media is used as a stage. Girls rarely write in journals
anymore. Boys are too busy degrading girls and blatantly sending messages about
illegal activity. They want the world to
know their emotions, which is often times fueled by anger, lack of acceptance, and some
form of abuse.
We will
teach the kids to interact, to connect, to socialize creatively. They will use
poetry to be and reveal their true selves, to swipe out common words for
synonyms, and to play around with sentence structure. We’re requiring the usage
of the left brain hemisphere, which will sharpen their critical thinking
skills.
We will
visit after school programs, summer programs/camps, theatres, and wherever else
children and teens exist. We will even analyze the lyrics of some of their
favorite music, in hopes of seasoning their taste buds. Who knows? Maybe we’ll
ignite the flame for future notorious P.O.E.T.!
Reading between the Lines
The organization will also extend words of poetic
encouragement to those dealing with adult illiteracy, which is a major issue in
society. We intend on having a special program specifically for those who are
embarrassed, but willing to make a change in their lives. Poetry will be a
great way start to learning how to read. Rich and robust in language, one is
bound to learn how to read and grow to appreciate poetry as an art.
The Sweeter the Juice
Senior
citizens enjoy the arts too! We’ll travel to the senior citizen homes to give
them the Grapevine experience. We’ll give a history lesson, recite some poetry,
and even lend an ear to stories about their experiences with poetry.
